How Much Does Ceramic and Porcelain Tile Cost in Grand Junction?

Ceramic and porcelain tile costs $2.34 to $10.00+ per square foot at Carpetime, for the material. Carpetime sells tile as material only; we don’t install tile. Tile for a 500-square-foot area runs about $1,170 to $5,000+.

That range covers floor tile, wall tile, backsplashes and showers, so where a tile falls in it depends on a few things.

What affects the price of tile

  • Material: basic ceramic is usually the most affordable, and porcelain typically costs more because it’s denser and more durable. But price isn’t just about material. Designer and handmade-look ceramic wall tiles can be some of the most expensive tiles we sell, and natural stone and glass usually sit toward the high end too.

  • Size: standard sizes cost less. Large-format tiles, like 24" x 48", cost more and need a flatter surface and more careful installation.

  • Look: simple solid colors and basic patterns are the most affordable. Realistic marble, stone and wood looks cost more.

  • Mosaics and accents: mosaics, glass and decorative accent tiles are often priced higher per square foot, but they’re usually used in small areas like backsplashes and shower niches, so they add less to the total than you might expect.

Don’t forget the extras

The tile itself is only part of the material cost. Most projects also need trim pieces, like bullnose or edge trim, plus thinset, grout and sometimes backer board. If your installer isn’t supplying them, we can provide them. Just ask us to include them when we estimate your tile, so there are no surprises.

We sell tile, but we don’t install it

You can see our ceramic and porcelain selection in the showroom and buy it by the square foot. We don’t offer tile installation. We can help you estimate how much tile you need, either from your plans or from a site measure.

How much tile to buy

Order extra for cuts and breakage. How much depends on the size of the tile:

  • Smaller tiles, like subway tile: about 5% extra

  • Larger formats, like 12" x 24" or 24" x 24": about 10% extra

  • Very large tiles, like 24" x 48": we count the exact tiles needed for your layout instead of adding a percentage

Diagonal or herringbone patterns need more. A few extra tiles also leave spares for future repairs, since the same color batch can be hard to find later.

Pickup, not delivery

Material-only orders are picked up at our warehouse. We don’t deliver.

Ceramic or porcelain?

Porcelain is denser and absorbs less water, so it’s usually the better choice for heavy traffic, bathrooms and entries. Ceramic is often less expensive and works well on walls and in lighter-traffic rooms. We can help you choose in the showroom.

Special orders and payment

Special-order tile can’t be canceled or returned once ordered. We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards. Prices shown are before sales tax.
