What Commercial Carpet Tile Can You See at Carpetime’s Showroom?

Here's what you'll find in the commercial carpet tile section at Carpetime, which brands we carry, and how we'll help you choose for your business.

The carpet tile brands we carry

In our showroom, you'll find carpet tile from Aladdin Commercial, Philadelphia Commercial and Pentz. We also sell carpet tile from Mannington Commercial, J+J Flooring, Shaw Contract, Mohawk Group, EF Floors, Patcraft, Tarkett and other manufacturers. Samples from these brands are kept in our library of architect folders upstairs.

Who carpet tile is for

Carpet tile is commercial-grade flooring, glued down in squares. It's a strong fit for offices, retail spaces, schools, and churches. Because it comes in tiles, a stained or worn area can be fixed by replacing a few tiles instead of the whole floor.

What does a TARR rating mean?

When you compare commercial carpet tile, one of the most useful numbers to ask about is the TARR, or Texture Appearance Retention Rating. It was developed by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) as a consistent way to rate how well commercial carpet keeps its appearance under foot traffic.

TARR is scored on a scale from 1 to 5, in half-point steps. A higher number means the carpet holds its look better under heavy use. As a general guide, CRI recommends:

  • Moderate traffic: 2.5 or higher

  • Heavy traffic: 3.0 or higher

  • Severe traffic, such as lobbies, corridors and classrooms: 3.5 or higher

TARR is a way to compare products for a space, not a prediction of how many years a carpet will last. Backing, maintenance and how the space is used all play a part too. Every commercial line we carry lists its TARR rating, and we'll help you match it to your space.

Can you take samples?

Yes. You're welcome to take our sample boards and architect folders from our library back to your office to compare in your own space. We can also order full-size samples from the manufacturer and get them to you quickly.

Do you keep carpet tile in stock?

We don't keep carpet tile in stock. Once you've picked a style and color, we order it for your project, and how long that takes depends on the product:

  • Quick-ship products: many manufacturers offer select styles and colors that are ready to ship, so they arrive much sooner.

  • Made-to-order products: most carpet tile is produced after you order it, which typically takes 6 to 8 weeks.

  • Mill overages: mills sometimes have extra carpet tile left over from other special orders. If an overage fits your project, it can be a faster way to get the look you want.

If your project has a deadline, tell us up front, and we'll focus on the options that can get there in time.

What about commercial rolled carpet?

Carpet tile is the more popular choice for most businesses, but we also offer commercial carpet in rolls, sometimes called broadloom. We keep three colors of Philadelphia Commercial rolled carpet in stock, which you can see on our in-stock commercial carpet page. Because it's already in our warehouse, it can be a good fit when you need new flooring quickly.

Rubber cove base

Many carpet tile projects are finished with rubber cove base, the flexible rubber trim that runs along the bottom of the wall where it meets the floor. It protects walls from vacuums, carts and mop buckets, and it gives the room a clean, finished edge.

We use Roppe Pinnacle 4" cove base, and our local supplier keeps these colors in stock in both sticks and coils: Black, Brown, Lunar Dust, Charcoal, Fawn, Light Brown, Dark Grey, Black Brown, Burnt Umber and Ivory. Coils come in 120-foot rolls, which means fewer seams on long walls.

How we'll help you choose

A salesperson will ask a few questions to narrow things down:

  • What kind of space is it, and how many people use it each day?

  • Are there rolling chairs or carts?

  • When can the space be empty for installation?

  • What's your rough budget?

From there, we’ll pull samples that fit. Tell us your timeline and when your space will be available, and we’ll plan the installation around it.
