What's Included in a Carpet Quote, and What Costs Extra?

When you compare carpet quotes, the price per square foot only tells part of the story. Two quotes can look far apart simply because one includes things the other leaves out. Here's what comes with a Carpetime carpet installation, and the extras that may apply to your job, using our actual prices.

What's included in the installed price

Residential carpet at Carpetime runs $2.85 to $7.55+ per square foot installed, before sales tax. That price includes:

  • The carpet

  • Standard pad (7/16", 6 lb)

  • Standard installation

  • Transitions between rooms

  • Hauling away the scraps

What can cost extra

These items depend on your home, so we price them separately:

  • Removing and disposing of old carpet and pad: $0.30 to $0.60 per sq ft

  • Stairs: $7 to $14 per step, plus the carpet and pad

  • Upgraded pad: about $0.40 per sq ft more for SmartCushion, a thicker 1/2" 8 lb pad with a built-in moisture barrier

  • Glue-down tack strip on older concrete: $1.50 to $1.70 per linear foot

  • Floor prep: $75 per hour

  • Crawlspace hatches (trap doors): $35 to $50 each

  • Furniture moving: $25 to $50 per piece, more for heavy pieces

Jobs outside the Grand Valley, such as Mesa, Collbran, De Beque, Gateway and Glade Park, also carry an installer trip charge of $2.67 to $3.00 per mile one way, per install day or vehicle.

We list these separately because not every job needs them. If we built removal, stairs and furniture moving into every price, customers with an empty room and no stairs would be paying for work we never do.

Is upgraded pad worth it?

If you have pets or kids, or you've ever spilled a glass of wine, yes. SmartCushion's built-in moisture barrier keeps spills and pet accidents from soaking down into the pad, which makes them much easier to clean up.

The one cost we can't know in advance

Floor prep is the hardest item to price up front, because the condition of the subfloor often isn't clear until the old flooring comes up. Once your deposit is paid, your price is locked, with that one exception: if we find damage or uneven areas that need leveling or repair, the prep work may be adjusted once we can see what's underneath.

How to get your exact number

The best way to get a real price is a free measure. We'll measure your home, then put together a written, itemized estimate that shows every item that applies to your project, so you can see exactly what you're paying for. Measures are free anywhere in the Grand Valley: Grand Junction, Clifton, Palisade, Whitewater, Fruita, Loma and Mack.
