Commercial glue-down carpet tile costs $3.60 to $6.60 per square foot installed at Carpetime. A 500-square-foot space runs about $1,800 to $3,300.
Good, better, best
Good: usually polyester, a budget-friendly choice with simpler patterns and colors for moderate traffic, like back offices and break rooms. $2.00 to $2.87 per sq ft material, $3.60 to $4.87 installed.
Better: nylon, with a higher TARR rating for heavier traffic and more style options. The right choice for most offices and retail spaces. $2.87 to $3.73 per sq ft material, $4.47 to $5.73 installed.
Best: nylon with the highest TARR ratings for severe traffic, plus premium designs, for lobbies, corridors and classrooms. $3.73 to $4.60 per sq ft material, $5.33 to $6.60 installed.
Installation runs $1.60 to $2.00 per square foot at every level. These are our own current prices, before sales tax. The biggest difference between levels is the fiber: nylon is more resilient than polyester, so it springs back from foot traffic and holds its appearance longer in busy spaces. When you compare carpet tile quotes, ask about the fiber and the TARR rating.
TARR, or Texture Appearance Retention Rating, is the Carpet and Rug Institute’s 1-to-5 scale for how well commercial carpet holds its appearance under foot traffic. Higher is better. Who carpet tile is for
Carpet tile is commercial-grade flooring, glued down in squares. It’s a strong fit for offices, retail spaces, schools and churches.
The big advantage is repairs. If one area gets stained or worn, you replace a few tiles instead of the whole floor. That’s why we recommend keeping some extra tiles from your order.
What the installed price includes
The carpet tile, adhesive, standard installation, transitions, and haul-away of scraps. Carpet tile doesn’t use a pad. Rubber cove base, removing old flooring, floor prep, and moving furniture are priced separately.
Rubber cove base
Many carpet tile projects are finished with rubber cove base, the flexible rubber trim along the bottom of the wall. We use Roppe Pinnacle 4" cove base, and our local supplier keeps ten colors in stock in both sticks and coils, so it’s usually easy to get.
Material: $1.20 to $1.50 per linear foot
Installation: $1.34 to $2.68 per linear foot
Installed total: about $2.54 to $4.18 per linear foot
Colors our supplier doesn’t keep in stock can be special-ordered, with freight charged extra.
Extra costs that can apply
Remove old carpet and pad: $0.30 to $0.60 per sq ft
Remove glued-down vinyl or sheet vinyl: $1.00 to $2.00 per sq ft, asbestos test required
General floor prep: $75 per hour
Concrete grinding: $150 per hour
Self-leveler: $125 per bag
Furniture moving: $25 to $50 per piece; heavy pieces cost more
